andersenANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam — CrossFit Andersen, originally operated out of the Coral Reef Fitness Center, has been relocated to a designated area at the Andersen Hot Spot beginning August 2. The Andersen Hot Spot is located in building 25005, on Hansell Ave.

The new dedicated CrossFit area is located in the basketball court of the Hot Spot and is considered a significant upgrade for the organization due to its prime location and extra space.

According to trainers, CrossFit is a strengthening and conditioning program designed to help people improve their fitness levels. Andersen’s CrossFit community has tripled in size since its inception in March, which caused the group to search for a more suitable training area.

“Our CrossFit community needed a good home,” said Tech Sgt. Travis Benne, 36th Civil Engineer Squadron NCO in charge of emergency communications and CrossFit Andersen participant. “With a following of more than 350 community members, there are times that we have to establish heats to provide our workouts to those wishing to participate.”

Relocating provides a safer and more spacious environment for participants to complete their workouts, the ability to increase class sizes, and the addition of fitness gear essential to specific CrossFit workouts.

Members of Andersen CrossFit said they believe the relocation will encourage increased participation and are enthusiastic about the growth of the program.
“The Andersen CrossFit community, like the global CrossFit community, is constantly growing,” said Staff Sgt. Steven Nowicki, 36th Security Forces Squadron military working dog section kennel master and CrossFit Andersen member. “I expect nothing short of a large and continuing growth on the road ahead.”

The relocation included laying down rubber mat flooring and moving bleachers to separate the training area from the rest of the gymnasium. Along with these improvements, the group is awaiting a shipment of equipment to fully outfit the Hot Spot.

Class times are 6 a.m., 11 a.m., and 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with an 8 a.m. class on Saturday. While the majority of the classes will take place in the Hot Spot, certain workouts may call for an alternate location and CrossFit Andersen organizers ask participants to visit or for specific workouts and where they will be held.
